Reflection

 I believe I now understand new media and digital literacies better. One of my strengths is that I'm open to learning new things and relearning what I already know.  My understanding of what constitutes literacy has improved, and there is plenty to cover in this area which is ever-growing. The gaming Ted Talk simply got me to consider and consider everything that goes into the culture and practice of gaming. I never would have thought of that in terms of literacy practice before this session, it has helped me understand where my students come from in that terms of literacy. I had the hardest time connecting to those chapters in our textbook because I don't have any experience with such cultural practices which will only challenge me deepen my aspects of literature for my future classes. One of my other successes in the class, in my opinion, was participating in discussions, utilizing the readings to inform my ideas, and then reading and taking notes from everyone else's blog postings. I really enjoyed developing the proposal for community engagement.  I've never undertaken anything like that, but after I got started on my concept I began to care about it as if it were actually happening. It was really interesting to see if our classmates answers compared and contrasts with each other. 

An area id say I have to improve on is utilizing quotes from research in my writing. I believe that comes with digital literacies better from reading more in depth into articles and researching more articles, which is certainly an area I will improve on. As an educator, it can only benefit not only myself but my students as well with the more research in a certain topic I do. I believe that reading more of the discussion and blog posts that the other students wrote gave me a better baseline understanding on improving in my digital literacies.
